The Ministry of Transport has issued opinions on advancing the development of maritime services in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area on 12 June 2020. In order to achieve the goal of building the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area into a pioneer zone for maritime service and transportation, a pilot zone for maritime reform and opening-up of innovation and development and a demonstration zone for maritime high-quality development, the opinions formulate a number of specific measures form 6 directions. The directions include deepening the maritime collaboration and cooperation mechanism in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, strengthening the construction of safety protection capability of water transportation, actively promoting the green development of transportation in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, continuously improving emergency water search and rescue capabilities, helping to optimize the transportation development environment in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and adhering to radiation effects to promote regional coordinated development. In addition, the opinions propose the establishment of a leading group for the development of maritime services in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, to study and solve major issues such as deepening the cooperation of maritime management associations in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao and to strengthen the overall coordination and promotion of maritime services in the Greater Bay Area.
