The National Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Office of the Leading Group and the People's Government of Guangdong Province for the Development of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the People's Government of Guangdong Province have jointly issued a notice on the construction plan for the Chinese medicine highlands in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area (2020-2025) on 27 September 2020. In order to achieve the goal of building five highlands in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area by 2025, the construction plan sets out a number of major tasks from 5 directions and proposes 3 safeguard measures. The directions include integrating superior resources and creating medical highlands, promoting integrated development and creating an innovative highland, consolidating the foundation for development and creating a talent highland, deepening mutually beneficial cooperation and creating an industrial highland, as well as promoting the Belt and Road to create an international highland. The plan proposes that on the basis of CEPA allowing Hong Kong and Macao Chinese medicine practitioners to practice medicine in the Mainland for short-term, it encourages Chinese medicine practitioners from Hong Kong and Macao to practice in public medical institutions in the Mainland, and attract the younger generation of Hong Kong and Macao to practice and start businesses in the Greater Bay Area.
