On 16 January 2024, the Economic Development Bureau of the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone issued the “Implementation Rules for Supporting the High-quality Development of the Biomedical and Health Industry in the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao Intensive Cooperation Zone” (“the Implementation Rules”). The Implementation Rules proposed to support the development of production, study and research demonstration bases operated by universities from Macao. In addition, the Implementation Rules proposed to encourage Macao universities, or their production, study and research bases in the Cooperation Zone to cooperate with enterprises, hospitals and research institutes for carrying out transformation projects in the biomedicine integrated health field and offer a subsidy of up to 50% of the research and operation expenditures for each transformation project. The maximum subsidy for each project is RMB 1 million and the annual subsidy for each base shall not exceed RMB 5 million. The Rules will be implemented on 1 January 2022 and will be valid until 31 December 2024.
