On 24 March 2024, the General Affairs Office of the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government issued the “Rules on Supporting the Development of the Film Industry in Guangzhou Municipality” (“the Rules”). The Rules proposed to support the construction of film copyright trading platforms and copyright intermediary organizations and promote international and domestic film copyright trading. In addition, the Rules aimed to fully carry out the national and provincial preferential tax policies for the film industry in Guangdong province and implement the “Overall Plan of Guangdong Nansha on Deepening the All-round Cooperation towards the World among Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao”. The film industry-related institutions and projects in Guangzhou Municipality will be eligible to enjoy corresponding tax incentives within the specific scope and time limit. The Rules will be effective from 24 March 2024 and will be valid for 5 years.
