On 31 July 2024, the Standing Committee of the Guangdong Provincial People’s Congress passed and issued the “Administrative Regulations on the Pharmaceutical and Medical Devices of Nine Municipalities in Guangdong Province in Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Imported from Hong Kong and Macao” (“the Regulations”). The Regulations is to strengthen the management of imported Hong Kong and Macao medicines and medical devices for clinical urgency in Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Greater Bay Area (“GBA”), so as to meet the needs of residents in GBA. The Regulations shall shorten the reviewing time for importation and use of Hong Kong and Macao medicines and devices and optimise the customs clearance procedures for urgently needed Hong Kong and Macao medicines and devices. The Regulations will be implemented from 1 December 2024.
