The HKSAR Government launched the Original Grant Patent (“OGP”) system in December 2019, providing a direct route for patent applicants to seek standard patent protection in Hong Kong with a maximum term of 20 years. The HKSAR Government will enhance the substantive examination capability of patent examiners under the OGP system of the Intellectual Property Department and develop a talent pool, with a view to acquiring institutional autonomy in conducting substantive patent examination.
