Preparatory Work for Implementing the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks

The international trade mark registration system under the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks seeks to facilitate the registration and management of trade marks by trade mark owners in multiple jurisdictions under one single application, thereby saving time and costs. The Trade Marks (Amendment) Ordinance 2020 was enacted in June 2020 to provide a basis in Hong Kong Law for the implementation of the international trade mark registration system in Hong Kong. The HKSAR Government is pressing ahead with the remaining preparatory work.
